Charles River Boat Ramp

Around 1AM, went out for a little bit on a windy night. Got skunked at a couple of ponds as it was hard to cast with the heavy winds. So, I came to this spot as in the past during windy conditions, I've managed to pull some from here. A couple little largemouths, and a 17" smallie. Great fight. Caught on black, jointed jitterbug, fishing against the open current on a miscast. It hit once and missed. I stopped for a couple of seconds. Then I started up again and it hit twice as hard and I nailed it. Fought so hard that when I got it up onto the bank, I had it caught by the mouth and by a piece of its tail!

  • Early spring through early summer is one period. Late summer through fall is another. It's a totally different game though. Very frustrating when the bite is off. And you'll need to devote many hours where normal people would be asleep. When I'm chasing them, I fish for a minimum of 6 hours.

  • My vote is for carp jumping in the river.

    Let us know otherwise though!

What time of the year do Stripers normally run, I thought it was once late spring early summer.

(I dunno never fished for 'em yet)

  • I'd like to imagine that they're stripers¡

  • BIG Carp in the river. Maybe That is what was jumping?

  • A few weeks ago, I saw a ton of HUGE splashes early morning... I've never hit any stripers in the Charles after late spring, but I would love to try.

Please keep me posted on this. Also, if you can keep your mouth shut, I know of a few great striper spots within the city. They should be back soon, if they're not already...

  • Hey you notice any baitfish activity while your fishing there. When i was there yesterday, there were several instances of serious "predatory" activity with "baitfish" surfacing. I cast right into it and nothing. Now this am, i heard rumors that strippers are chasing herring again up the river.
