5/9/11 - Charles River Watertown Boat Ramp

I fished the "Dirty Water" tonight afterwork for abour 1-1/2 hours. Gusty wind at times, sprinkles of rain here and there, the sun trying to peek out. I tried a jig, nothing. I tried a 2ft to 5 ft shallow crank, too shallow in most of the area I could cast to, need one that dives less than 2ft. I tried a Rat-L-Trap, nothing. I tried an inline spinner, and got a 5" Largemouth, and a 6" White Perch. Finished up the night throwing a small suspending jerkbait, and got a 7" Yellow Perch, and a 11-1/2" 11oz Smallmouth. I missed 2 more hits as well. Looks like the Smallies are just slowly getting active in the river. I look forward to catching more, and bigger.

  • LOL, Sorry Crease, I meant "Wouldnt Feel Bad" apparently Im having trouble typing today, DOH!

  • Crease I would feel bad, I think the smallies only start making a come back in the river about 3 years ago. Ive only caught them downsizing my lures. Ive used the Strike King 1XS (dives .5ft-2ft) crankbait there, and got a few.

  • How to firgure them out. The baby minus is a solid shallow preformer in all seasons but is a go to of mine in colder water.
