4/5/14 - RI State Bassmasters Open @ S. Watuppa
Finally!!! 1st tournament of the season. My buddy Paul and I decided to throw our hat into the ring for this open for a couple reasons. One was to knock the cobb webs off everything, and work out the kinks. Also next weekend we are fishing the Bass Nation Pro-Am here, so used as a practice too. Water levels are up, so that is good. Water temps were 43-46, and later in the day we found 46-48. Wind kicked up in the afternoon. Started real slow for us, with a couple hefty pickerel. We didn't have a fish in livewell until 1pm, when Paul finally got one on a jerkbait. I waded through a chucky Calico, and 4 more monster Pickerel (two 4lbers) before I made a color change on the lure I was using. About 2pm, Paul and I doubled up with cookie cutter 1-1/2lbers. 2:30ish I hook in to number 4, which would be our biggest of the limit at 2.79lbs. Then with about 10 minutes left I finished out our limit, throw it in the livewell so we can haul ass back to the ramp for weigh-in. 1st place has a 14.23lb limit including a 4.94lb Lunker. 2nd @ 12.56lbs, 3rd @12.08lbs, 4th @11.48lb including a 3.11lb Smallie. We had 8th place with our 9.20lb limit. Felt good to be on there, and it felt good to keep fighting, and coming through in the clutch!
