4/13/13 - MA B.A.S.S. Nation Pro-Am @ Wequaquet
Nice turn-out for the 1st B.A.S.S. Pro-Am of the season, 25 boaters, and 20 Co-Anglers. 40 degree air temps at take-off, water temps were 50-51 all day, and the clarity was not like it usually is. Wind had it clouded up pretty good. My usual spot as Co-angler, and draw at the ramp got me a boater name Steve and his Triton. Nice guy, cool thing about this trail is most of this guys are very nice. Learning from new people is good in my book. Wind was tough all day, made it near impossible to stay on a spot, or throw a finesse bait. Steve got only one keeper Smallie at 1.38lbs, but did get a Pickerel that had to be 6lbs plus, looked like it ate a boot! I grinded the day away mostly throw a square bill, rattle trap, spinner bait, and a jerkbait. Jerkbait only got me some perch. Finally at about noon time I tied on a Shallow Shad Rap. On a side note I gotta mention the gear I was throwing this on, Rod was a Denali Signature Jerkbait 6'8"Casting rod with a soft tip, Reel was Curado 50e, with 10lb Flouracarbon had very little problem throwing this 1/4oz crank into the wind! Love this set-up! Anyway 10 minutes after I started throwing the Shad Rap, I get on the board with a decent Smallie at 2lbs 6oz (My Biggest of the day). A little later on a Monster Pike slams my lure, fight him to the boat, Steve tried a one handed net scoop, but the Pike rolled out of the net and stripped everything but one treble hook. Dohh!!! I wanted a picture of that beast, had to be 30 plus inches, and 10lbs anyway, Real thick! Later on I picked up one more Smallie that would give me my final bag of 3.5lbs, and 9th place out of 20 Co-Anglers. Fun but tough day overall, but got valuable points. Some nice fish weighed in with 2 Largemouth over 6lbs, 2 more over 5lbs, Smallie over 4lbs. 1st place boater had 16.70lbs, and 1st place Co-Angler had 12.61lbs. Next Stop Quinnsig 5/11.
