4/12/14 - MA B.A.S.S. Nation Pro-Am Trail @ South Watuppa
This was the 1st of 4 tournaments for this trail this year. The turnout today was 24 Boaters, and 13 Co-Anglers. My usual spot as Co-angler, I drew an accomplished boater name Paul. I felt pretty good going into this tournament because what I had figured out last weekend. Water temps were up to 51 to start the day, and about 54 at days end. Paul started with a squarebill, I was throwing a minnow style plug. An hour in, I had 4 in the livewell, and Paul 1. The bite slowed so we tried some other spots in the next 4 hours. Paul picked up 2 nice Largemouth in that time on a jig, One being the eventual lunker @ 4.60lbs. But the bite was slow, so moved back to the area we started in, mainly because we were both confident the fish were there, and we just needed to figure them out. The area had a bunch big slab Calico's, with Bass mixed. I probably caught a dozen Calico, mostly over a pound. I was also able to get my limit, and culled a half a dozen time. Culling for ounces basically as I caught plenty of bass, just no big ones. Paul also limited out, and culled a couple times. When the scales closed, Paul got the win on the boaters side with 14.97lbs. On the Co-Angler side, even though I didn't have a Bass bigger than 2.27lbs, My limit at 8.60lbs was enough to put on top. Good day, lots of fun, and early season W has me smiling!
